Prigioniero ricoverato in ospedale dopo essere stato torturato in un carcere israeliano

Un prigioniero palestinese è stato spostato in una corsia d'ospedale dopo aver subito torture al centro di detenzione di Israele Russian Compound, il comitato prigionieri dell'Autorità Palestinese lo ha riferito Mercoledì.

La commissione ha detto che Muhammad Hussein Rabee, 33 anni, da Beit Anan, un villaggio vicino a Ramallah, ha sofferto complicazioni di salute a causa delle torture, mentre si trovava presso il centro di detenzione di Gerusalemme per 40 giorni.

Egli è stato prima trasferito all’ospedale Hadassa la settimana scorsa, ed ora è nel Medical Center Shaare Zedek.

Rabee è stato arrestato il 27 luglio e la sua famiglia non ha saputo dove si trovasse fino a 30 giorni più tardi.

"Non sapevamo dove Muhammad era fino a dopo un mese dal suo arresto, e al suo avvocato non è stato permesso di fargli visita fino a 35 giorni dopo che si trovava al compound russo" il fratello Osama ha detto a Ma'an.

L'avvocato di Rabee ha detto che era stato "duramente torturato"

Khaldun jumhur, ex prigioniero, che era detenuto nel Russian Compound con Rabee, ha detto che gli interrogatori usano fare pressione sul collo della vittima, così come batterli sulle mani, le gambe e la testa.

Un medico presso il centro di detenzione ha richiesto una radiografia per Rabee, ma è stata rifiutata dall'agenzia Shin Bet.

La Commissione per gli Affari del Prigioniero ha chiesto alle Ong per i diritti umani di ritenere Israele responsabile per la tortura di prigionieri palestinesi.

Circa 4.000 detenuti palestinesi nelle carceri israeliane hanno lanciato uno sciopero della fame nel 2013 per protestare contro la morte di Arafat Jaradat, morto nel carcere Megido di Israele dopo essere stato torturato da interrogatori israeliani.

Circa 7.000 palestinesi sono attualmente detenuti nelle carceri israeliane, oltre 2.000 dei quali sono stati arrestati durante quest’ultima estate.

Prisoner hospitalized after being tortured in Israeli jail

A Palestinian prisoner has been moved to a hospital ward after undergoing torture at Israel's Russian Compound detention center, a Palestinian Authority prisoners committee said Wednesday.

Muhammad Hussein Rabee, 33, from Beit Anan village near Ramallah, suffered health complications as a result of being tortured while being held at the Jerusalem detention center for 40 days, the committee said.

He was first moved to Hadassa hospital last week, and is now in the Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

Rabee was detained on July 27 and his family did not find out his whereabouts until 30 days later.

"We did not know where Muhammad was until after a month of his detention, and his lawyer was not allowed to visit him until after 35 days of being at the Russian compound," his brother Usama told Ma'an.

Rabee's lawyer said he had been "harshly tortured."

Former prisoner Khaldun Jumhur, who was being held in the Russian Compound with Rabee, said that interrogators used a method of putting pressure on the victim's neck, as well as beating him on his hands, legs and head.

A doctor at the detention center requested an x-ray for Rabee, but was refused by the Shin Bet agency.

The Prisoner Affairs Committee demanded human rights organizations to hold Israel accountable for torturing Palestinian prisoners.

Some 4,000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails launched hunger-strike action in 2013 to protest the death of Arafat Jaradat, who died in Israel's Megido jail after being tortured by Israeli interrogators.

Around 7,000 Palestinians are currently being held in Israeli prisons, more than 2,000 of whom were arrested over summer alone.
