Il monaco diciottenne di nome Gepe, si è immolato di fronte ad un ufficio militare cinese nella prefettura di Ngaba. Gepe proveniente dal vicino monastero di Kirti, da cui centinaia di monaci sono stati deportati dalle forze di sicurezza e che ha subito dure ristrettezze fin dall’inizio dell’anno scorso. Dopo la sua morte, i militari hanno portato il corpo all’interno dell’edificio. I genitori hanno avuto la notizia solo il giorno seguente e, quando hanno chiesto il suo corpo per i funerali, i militari hanno rifiutato dicendo che sarebbe stato cremato nel vicino quartiere di Barkham. La famiglia non era d’accordo e così i militari hanno cremato i resti di Gepe in pubblico vicino al monastero di Kirti, dove cinque monaci hanno tenuto le preghiere, ma ai famigliari e ad altri tibetani è stato proibito di partecipare alla cerimonia. Gepe veniva da una famiglia nomade che vive nel villaggio di Soruma Dewa e fu portato al monastero da bambino, dove otteneva buoni risultati negli studi, ha detto Lobsang Yeshe. La polizia ha trattenuto la madre di Gepe, Chako, sottoponendola ad interrogatorio per diverse ore domenica e lunedì, prima di rilasciarla. I negozi e i ristoranti tibetani della zona sono rimasti chiusi in solidarietà con il monaco. Le misure di sicurezza sono state aumentate. http://www.dossiertibet.it Tibet : Monk Self-Immolates on Uprising Day A young Tibetan monk burned himself to death in protest at Chinese rule as Tibetans marked “Uprising Day” at the weekend.The 18-year-old monk, identified as Gepe, staged the self-immolation behind a Chinese military office in the Ngaba prefecture.Gepe was from Ngaba's restive Kirti monastery, from which hundreds of monks have been taken away by Chinese security forces and which has faced a clampdown since early last year.He died on the spot, and Chinese military personnel immediately took his body inside the building. Gepe’s family learned of his death only on the next day.But when they went to claim his body, Chinese officials refused to hand it over, saying that it would be taken instead to neighboring Barkham county for cremation. The family would not agree to this, so authorities burned Gepe’s remains that night at a public cremation ground near Kirti monastery.Five monks were present to conduct prayers, but no family members or other Tibetans were allowed to attend. Gepe came from a nomad family living in the village of Soruma Dewa and was taken at a young age to Kirti monastery, where he did well in his studies, Lobsang Yeshe said. He is survived by his mother and two siblings. Chinese police detained Gepe’s mother, Chako, and questioned her for several hours on Sunday and Monday before releasing her. Tibetan shops and restaurants in the area are now closed in solidarity with the dead monk, and security measures in the area have been tightened.
