In Iraq, gli adolescenti emo sono sempre considerati omosessuali. Sono circolate liste di nomi, postate nella periferia di Baghdad, che avvisavano di smettere di abbigliarsi nello stile emo. Remember that we warned you.” Human rights groups have accused the Iraqi Ministry of Interior of complicity in the campaign. In a widely circulated February 13 press release (which is no longer available on the website), the government equates emos to Satanists.
