The Bashar al-Assad regime agreed to destroy its chemical weapon stocks after Russia and the US reached a diplomatic agreement over the program in a bid to avert a Washington-backed military strike on the Syrian regime after over 1000 people were left dead in a chemical strike outside Damascus in August.
