Il primo ministro Erdogan è contento di restituire il premio assegnatogli dall’American Jewish Congress

L’Ambasciatore della Turchia a Washington ha scritto una lettera al Congresso ebraico americano dopo che l'organizzazione ha chiesto al primo ministro Recep Tayyip Erdogan di restituire un premio che gli fu dato nel 2004, dicendo che il leader sarebbe contento per restituire l'onore.

"In considerazione di quanto precede, così come l'atteggiamento deplorevole adottato dall’attuale leadership del Congresso ebraico americano nei confronti dei recenti attacchi contro i civili innocenti a Gaza, il primo ministro Erdoğan, sarà lieto di restituire il premio assegnatogli nel 2004", dice la lettera dell'ambasciatore Serdar Kılıç.

"La richiesta per la restituzione del premio di cui sopra costituisce in realtà una sfortunata testimonianza della posizione insensibile adottata dalla attuale leadership del Congresso ebraico americano per quanto riguarda le politiche in corso di occupazione e di atrocità del governo israeliano", ha detto la lettera di Kılıç.

"Tuttavia, non si dovrebbe pensare che Erdogan possa chiudere un occhio sulle politiche di occupazione, di blocco e distruzione che il governo israeliano sta attuando contro i palestinesi in Cisgiordania e Gaza. L'uccisione indiscriminata di oltre 1.000 civili innocenti, tra cui donne e bambini, e il bombardamento di ospedali e scuole delle Nazioni Unite durante i recenti attacchi su Gaza rappresentano una grave violazione non solo del diritto internazionale, ma anche dei valori umani più fondamentali" si legge nella lettera.

"I tentativi di raffigurare le critiche legittime del Primo Ministro Erdogan degli attacchi del governo israeliano contro i civili come espressioni di antisemitismo è una distorsione evidente e uno sforzo per coprire le malefatte storiche del governo israeliano. Va notato a questo proposito che il primo ministro Erdoğan ha dichiarato pubblicamente al mondo intero che l'antisemitismo è un crimine contro l'umanità".

Kılıç ha invitato l'organizzazione a condannare pubblicamente le "politiche del governo israeliano che hanno causato lo degno dell'opinione pubblica di tutto il mondo e hanno portato a proteste di centinaia di migliaia di persone, tra cui numerosi membri delle comunità ebraiche."

Prime Minister Erdogan ‘glad’ to return award given by American Jewish Congress

Turkey’s ambassador to Washington has written a letter to the American Jewish Congress after the organization asked Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to return an award he was given in 2004, saying the leader would be “glad” to return the honor.

“In view of the foregoing as well as the regrettable stance adopted by the present leadership of the American Jewish Congress vis-à-vis the recent attacks on the innocent civilians in Gaza, Prime Minister Erdoğan will be glad to return the award given back in 2004,” said the letter from Ambassador Serdar Kılıç.

“Your request for the return of the aforementioned award actually constitutes an unfortunate testimony to the unsusceptible stance adopted by the present leadership of the American Jewish Congress regarding the Israeli government’s ongoing policies of occupation and atrocity,” said Kılıç’s letter.

“However, [Erdoğan] should not be expected to turn a blind eye to the policies of occupation, blockade and destruction that the Israeli government has been implementing against the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. The indiscriminate killing of more than 1,000 innocent civilians, including women and children, and the bombing of hospitals and U.N. schools during the recent attacks on Gaza constitute a grave violation of not only international law, but also the most fundamental human values,” the letter said.

“Attempts to depict Prime Minister Erdoğan’s legitimate criticisms of the Israeli government’s attacks on civilians as expressions of anti-Semitism is an obvious distortion and an effort to cover up the historical wrongdoings of the Israeli government. It should be noted in this respect that Prime Minister Erdoğan has publicly declared to the entire world that anti-Semitism is a crime against humanity,” the letter added.

Kılıç called on the organization to publicly condemn the “Israeli government’s policies that have caused public outrage around the world and led to protests by hundreds of thousands of people, including numerous members of Jewish communities.”
