Esplosione nel quartiere di Choueifat

BEIRUT - Lunedi sera un attentatore suicida si è fatto esplodere all'interno di un furgone passeggeri in Choueifat a sud est di Beirut, uccidendosi e ferendo altri due nell'ultimo attacco terroristico al Libano.

Il furgone bianco Hyundai, era diretto verso la periferia sciita di Dahiyeh, nel sud di Beirut, bersaglio di una campagna di terrore condotta da gruppi di Al Qaeda nel paese, ha riferito il corrispondente di Now Lebanon.

L’autista del furgone è stato ricoverato al vicino ospedale Kamal Jumblatt per, l'esercito libanese ha istituito un cordone di sicurezza intorno al luogo dell'esplosione e ha iniziato a studiare le circostanze dell'attacco.

La periferia di Choueifat, che si trova a est dell’International Airport Rafiq Hariri di Beirut, è la patria di una popolazione settaria mista che comprende principalmente drusi e cristiani, ma anche musulmani sciiti.

Explosion 
in Lebanon's Choueifat

BEIRUT - A suicide bomber early Monday evening detonated himself inside a passenger van in Choueifat southeast of Beirut, killing himself and injuring two others in the latest terror attack to rock Lebanon.

The white Hyundai van had been headed toward the Shiite-populated Dahiyeh suburbs in southern Beirut, which have been the target of a terror campaign conducted by Al-Qaeda-linked groups in the country, NOW’s correspondent reported.

The van’s driver was rushed to the nearby Kamal Jumblatt Hospital for treatment, as Lebanon’s army set up a security cordon around the blast site and began investigating the circumstances of the attack.

The town of Choueifat, which is located east of Beirut’s Rafiq Hariri International Airport, is home to a mixed sectarian population that includes mainly Druze and Christians, but also Shiite Muslims. 

 [18:43] NOW: The suicide bomber tried to take a cab, but the taxi driver found him suspicious and fled in a hurry. He later saw, in his mirror, the man in question entering the van.
