La Turchia è la chiave degli sforzi per il cessate il fuoco a Gaza

Il portavoce del Dipartimento di Stato Usa, Maria Harf, ha detto che la Turchia sta giocando un ruolo chiave nell'organizzare il cessate il fuoco a Gaza.

Parlando alla conferenza stampa quotidiana, la Harf ha detto che il segretario di Stato Usa John Kerry ha parlato con il suo omologo turco Ahmet Davutoglu per tre volte ieri.

Alla domanda sul perché Kerry abbia chiamato Davutoglu, nonostante il fatto che Washington sia scontenta dei commenti anti-israeliani del Premier turco, Harf ha detto che la Turchia ha un ruolo da svolgere a causa del suo rapporto con Hamas.

"Hanno un rapporto con Hamas. Voglio dire, possono avere conversazioni che noi non potremmo avere", ha detto, sottolineando che "il ministro degli Esteri turco è un attore chiave nella regione e dispone di leve che possono sostenere la situazione."

Turkey is key to Gaza ceasefire efforts

Turkey is playing a key role in arranging a ceasefire in Gaza, US State Department spokeswoman Mary Harf said yesterday.

Speaking at the daily press briefing, Harf said that US Secretary of State John Kerry spoke to his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu three times yesterday.

Asked why Kerry called Davutoglu three times despite the fact that Washington is unhappy about Turkish prime minister's anti-Israel remarks, Harf said that Turkey has a role to play due to their relationship with Hamas.

"They have a relationship with Hamas. I mean, they can, you know, have conversations that we can't," she said, pointing out that "the Turkish foreign minister is a key player in the region and has some leverage he can bring to bear on the situation."
