Julian Assange lascerà presto l’Ambasciata ecuadoriana

Dpo due anni di stallo con le autorità, il fondatore di WikiLeaks potrebbe essere vicino alla partenza mentre ammette che la sua salute ha sofferto, del lungo asilo.

Julian Assange ha detto che lascerà presto l'ambasciata dell'Ecuador a Londra, dopo oltre due anni passati all'interno dell'edificio.

L'australiano ha parlato in una conferenza stampa al fianco del ministro degli Esteri ecuadoriano Ricardo Patino nell'edificio di Knightsbridge.

Le notizie diffuse suggerivano che, il sito fondatore di WikiLeaks, ha bisogno di cure in ospedale per problemi cardiaci e polmonari.

Ma il 43enne ha negato di essere in procinto di lasciare l'ambasciata per motivi di salute.

Egli ha detto: "Lascierò l'ambasciata presto, ma non per le ragioni che la stampa di Murdoch e Sky News stanno dicendo in questo momento … Essere stato trattenuto in vari modi in questo paese, senza accuse per quattro anni e in questa ambasciata per due, senza spazio esterno, quindi senza luce del sole ... si tratta di un ambiente in cui ogni persona sana si troverebbe abbastanza presto con alcune difficoltà."

Assange ha insistito che la decisione dell'Ecuador di concedergli asilo politico è quella giusta.

Egli ha detto: "Come può essere che, in Europa, si ponga una situazione in cui una persona venga privata della libertà di movimento, e tenuto lontano dalla famiglia, mentre un governo straniero, gli Stati Uniti, costruisce un caso sempre più ampio nei confronti di tale persona e della sua organizzazione? … In qualche modo la situazione che si è sviluppata qui per me, ma anche per alcuni altri, vede i diritti fondamentali, che in precedenza erano universalmente accettati in Europa, non più rispettati"

Egli ha aggiunto che c'è una significativo mistificazione che circonda il suo caso. "Prima di tutto, io non sono stato accusato di un reato qui nel Regno Unito o in Svezia, in nessun momento … In secondo luogo, il fondamento in base al quale il mio asilo è stato concesso qui è l'indagine in corso su di me e WikiLeaks negli Stati Uniti …. Si è spesso erroneamente riferito che le donne in Svezia mi hanno accusato del grave reato di stupro. Che è falso …. Questa è la situazione che si colse, al tempo del conflitto tra me e gli Stati Uniti, il governo svedese ha resuscitato una questione che era stata precedentemente superata."

Mr Patino ha detto: "Ci sono stati due anni di grande incertezza e la mancanza di protezione legale Questa situazione deve giungere al termine perché diventata semplicemente troppo lunga ... E' il momento di liberare Julian Assange. E' tempo che i suoi diritti umani vengano finalmente affermati."

Egli ha aggiunto che avrebbe cercato di incontrare il Ministro degli Esteri britannico nelle prossime settimane per discutere e risolvere la situazione.

Assange ha chiesto asilo politico in Ecuador nel giugno 2012 ed è stato sotto costante sorveglianza, con la polizia che stazionava davanti all'ambasciata fin da allora.

Egli affronta un mandato di arresto in Svezia per l’accusa di aver aggredito sessualmente due donne e sarebbe stato arrestato se avesse lasciato l'edificio dell'ambasciata.

Assange è stato studiato dalle autorità statunitensi da quando Wikileaks ha pubblicato documenti diplomatici e militari nel 2010 e ha detto che teme di essere estradato negli Stati Uniti se andasse in Svezia per affrontare le accuse.

Julian Assange Will Leave Embassy Soon

A two-year stand-off with authorities may be near its end as the WikiLeaks founder admits his health has suffered while in asylum.

Julian Assange has said he will leave the Ecuadorian embassy in London "soon" after more than two years holed up inside the building.

The Australian was speaking at a news conference alongside Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino at the building in Knightsbridge.

Widespread reports had suggested the WikiLeaks website founder needs hospital treatment for heart and lung problems.

But the 43-year-old denied he was leaving the embassy for health reasons.

He said: "I am leaving the embassy soon - but perhaps not for the reasons the Murdoch press and Sky News are saying at the moment.

"Being detained in various ways in this country without charge for four years and in this embassy for two years which has no outside area, therefore no sunlight … it is an environment in which any healthy person would find themselves soon enough with certain difficulties."

Mr Assange insisted Ecuador's decision to grant him political asylum "is the correct one".

He said: "How can it be that such a situation in Europe arises where a person is held and their freedom of movement restricted and they are kept from their family while a foreign government, the US, builds an ever larger case against that person and their organisation?

"Somehow the situation has developed here for me, but also some others, where basic rights that were previously universally accepted in Europe are no longer respected."

He added that there had been "significant mis-reporting" surrounding his case.

"First of all - I have not been charged with an offence here in the UK or in Sweden at any time," he said.

"Secondly, the basis under which my asylum was granted here is the ongoing US investigation into me and WikiLeaks.

"It is often falsely reported that women in Sweden have accused me of the serious crime of rape. That is false.

"This is the situation which is being seized upon, at the time of the conflict between me and the US, the Swedish government resurrected a matter that had been previously dropped."

Mr Patino said: "There has been two years of great uncertainty and a lack of legal protection. This situation must come to an end. Two years is simply too long.

"It is time to free Julian Assange. It is time for his human rights to finally be respected."

He added that he would seek to meet with the British Foreign Secretary in the next few weeks to discuss resolving the situation.

Mr Assange requested political asylum from Ecuador in June 2012 and has been under continued surveillance with police stationed outside the embassy since.

He faces an arrest warrant in Sweden over allegations he sexually assaulted two women and would be arrested if he left the embassy building.

Mr Assange has been investigated by US authorities since WikiLeaks published leaked military and diplomatic documents in 2010 and has said he fears being extradited to the US to face questioning if he goes to Sweden.
