Dozzine di uiguri uccisi durante scontri in Yarkand County

La polizia cinese ha sparato causando decine di morti tra gli uiguri, che sono andati su tutte le furie, per le restrizioni durante il mese santo islamico del Ramadan e per l'uccisione a sangue freddo di una famiglia di cinque persone, durante i disordini. E’ avvenuto nella contea di Yarkand, prefettura di Kashgar durante la festa dell'Eid al-Fitr, che Lunedi segna la fine del mese di digiuno del Ramadan. Tutto è iniziato Lunedi mattina, quando gruppi di uiguri hanno attaccato una stazione di polizia e uffici governativi nella cittadina di Elishku, spingendo la polizia a sparare sulla folla, lasciando molti morti e feriti sul selciato. Un messaggio on line ha riferito che oltre 300 persone hanno attaccato la polizia con coltelli, bastoni, e mani nude. I disordini poi si sono diffusi in tre villaggi vicini dove sono stati presi di mira gli uffici governativi locali, e i funzionari uiguri e cinesi han.

Le autorità cinesi avevano tagliato i servizi Internet in alcune parti dello Yarkand a seguito dei disordini.

Dilxat Raxit, un portavoce per il Congresso Mondiale Uyghuro in esilio, con sede in Germania (WUC), ha detto ad AFP che più di 20 uiguri erano stati uccisi dalle autorità armate mentre 10 sono rimasti feriti.

Ha anche detto che 13 persone cinesi armate sono state uccise e ferite, aggiungendo che circa 67 persone sono state arrestate.

Gli uiguri stavano "resistendo alla politica repressiva estrema della Cina quando sono stati attaccati con la violenza", ha aggiunto.

Rebiya Kadeer, leader del WUC ha invitato la Cina a "mantenere la moderazione e fermare la repressione sistematica", ha detto Raxit AFP. "Lei è preoccupata che la Cina userà questo incidente per rafforzare la repressione e ancora più persone a perderanno la loro libertà".

Dozens of Uyghurs shot dead in riots in Yarkand County

Chinese police have shot dead dozens of Uyghur who went on a rampage, angry over restrictions during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and the cold-blooded killing of a family of five.The riots occurred in Yarkand county in Kashgar prefecture during the Eid al-Fitr festival on Monday marking the end of the Ramadan fasting month.The riots began on Monday morning when groups of Uyghurs attacked a police station and government offices in Elishku township, prompting police to fire at the crowd, leaving many dead or wounded.
An online post said more than 300 people attacked police with knives, sticks, and their bare hands.
The riots then spread to three villages in Elishku where local government offices, Uyghur officials and Han Chinese were targeted.

Chinese authorities had cut Internet services in parts of Yarkand following the riots.

Dilxat Raxit, a spokesman for the Germany-based exile World Uyghur Congress (WUC), told Agence France-Presse that more than 20 Uyghurs had been killed by armed authorities while 10 were injured.

He also said that 13 armed Chinese personnel were killed and injured, adding that about 67 people were arrested.

The Uyghurs were "resisting China's extreme repressive policy" when they were met with violence, he added.

WUC leader Rebiya Kadeer called on China to “maintain restraint and stop systematic repression," Raxit told AFP. "She is worried that China will use this incident to strengthen repression and cause even more people to lose their freedom.”
