NOW/AFP Syria rebels under “Hezbollah attack Syrian rebels accused Hezbollah of "militarily intervention" in Syria, saying the Shiite party attacked border villages, while Hezbollah said three Lebanese Shiites had been killed in recent fighting in the war-torn country. The Syrian National Council (SNC) said members of the powerful armed movement on Saturday attacked "three Syrian villages in the Qusayr region near the Lebanese border." The operation in Homs province led not only to "civilian casualties and the exodus of hundreds of people," but also "stoked sectarian tensions" in the area, the SNC said in a statement. Meanwhile, a Hezbollah official told AFP Sunday evening that three Lebanese Shiites had recently been killed in fighting in Syria. "Two Lebanese Shiites living in Syria were killed and at least 14 others wounded in clashes with rebels," the official told AFP on condition of anonymity, later adding that one of the wounded had also died. He said they were acting in "self-defense," without specifying if were Hezbollah members. Lebanon's Hezbollah is a Shiite party, while most of the Syrian population and the rebels battling Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime are Sunni. Free Syrian Army Louay al-Moqdad claimed that the Lebanese party was shelling several Syrian areas in an effort to fight the rebels. “Hezbollah is launching rockets and artillery shells on Syrian territory from Lebanese soil,” Moqdad told Future TV on Sunday.
