Essi erano tra i 14 passeggeri della motonave Saoirse abbordata in acque internazionali venerdì scorso durante una missione umanitaria per Gaza. I sette che questa mattina erano stati fermati prima di imbarcarsi sul volo della british Airways sono poi ritornati all’aeroporto nel pomeriggio per imbarcarsi su di un volo Lufthansa, tuttavia solo cinque di essi sono potuti partire, mentre due; il coordinatore Fintan Lane e il lettore della Limerick University Zoe Lawlor, sono stati riportati in custodia. La Campagna Per una nave irlandese per Gaza, comprende che anche i funzionari consolari sono stati colti di sorpresa. : - Siamo stati informati dal Consolato che sette cittadini irlandesi, trattenuti in Israele fina da venerdì scorso, sarebbero stati rimpatriati con un volo Lufthansa nel pomeriggio. – la portavoce Claudia Saba ha detto questo pomeriggio, . tuttavia alcuni minuti prima della partenza abbiamo ricevuto una telefonata che ci inromava che l’autobus che era andato verso l’aereo con sette passeggeri stava rientrando con due di loro. – I funzionari del Consolato ci hanno informato che i due erano Fintan Lane e Zoe Lawlor, i quali erano saliti sull’aereo, ma poi riportati in cella all’aeroporto. Gli altri cinque attivisti per i diritti umani sono invece opartiti regolarmente da Tel Aviv e arriveranno a Dublino alle ore 23:40 questa notte, du di un volo della Lufthansa. Gli altri sette erano previsti per il rimpatrio domani, ma ciò che è successo oggi mette in dubbio ogni previsione. Affiornamento: Fintan Lane e Zoe Lawlor stanno ora volando verso Istanbul! Dovranno fermarsi per la notte, per poi prendere un volo per Dublino domani. Non ci sono altri dettagli. http://irishshiptogaza.org/ Irish Activists Again Stopped From Leaving Israel Two leading Irish human rights activists were prevented for a second time today from flying home from Israel, in the latest strange twist to the protracted homecoming saga of Ireland’s #FreedomWaves campaigners. They were among the 14 Irish passengers of the MV Saoirse, hijacked in international waters last Friday on a humanitarian mission to Gaza. The seven people who had earlier been stopped from flying out on a morning British Airways flight were returned to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport this afternoon to take a Lufthansa flight. However, only five of them departed, with two — Irish Ship to Gaza co-ordinator Fintan Lane and Limerick university lecturer Zoe Lawlor — being returned to Israeli custody. The Irish Ship to Gaza campaign understands that these developments caught Irish consular officials by surprise. “We had been informed by the Irish consular mission that seven Irish citizens, held in Israel since last Friday, were placed on a Lufthansa flight home bound,” spokesperson Claudia Saba said this afternoon. “However, a few minutes later we got a call saying that the bus that had gone out to the plane with seven passengers then returned with two of them still on it.” Campaigners were told by Irish officials that Lane and Lawlor had boarded the flight, but were then removed and “returned to their holding cells” at the airport. The other five human-rights activists did leave Tel Aviv and are due to arrive in Dublin airport at 23.40 tonight, on a connecting Lufthansa flight. A further seven were due to be released tomorrow, but today’s bizarre and cruel developments put all such predictions in doubt. UPDATE [7pm]: Fintan Lane and Zoë Lawlor are now in the air en route to Istanbul! They will have to spend the night there, then will get a connecting flight tomorrow. No details yet about arrival time Dublin.
